Online journalism is defined as the reporting of facts produced and distributed via the Internet.
As of 2009, audiences for online journalism continue to grow. In 2008, for the first time, more Americans reported getting their national and international news from the internet, rather than newspapers, and audiences to news sites continued to grow due to the launch of new news sites, continued investment in news online by conventional news organizations, and the continued growth in internet audiences overall, with new people discovering the internet’s advantages for convenience, speed and depth. But in India the scenario is a bit different. A majority of our population still depends on newspapers, periodicals and television for news. Thus, limiting the scope for online media in India. India is yet to experience it’s first biggest online media boom when people will surely depend on the ever changing internet.
When we talk about India with respect to internet, 2 types of people come to our mind. 1) The ones who do not access the internet and 2) The ones who access internet. A majority of the people accessing internet in India is the youth.
People depend on the media to receive information and news. But with the ongoing commercialization of media, the honesty and credibility of the Indian media is being questioned.
This is where Youth Ki Awaaz steps in. An online journalism platform which empowers the youth to not only be news readers but also news makers and change makers. We still remember the role press had played during independence. In India, 72% of the total population is under 40, 46% is under 20 and 10% of the total world population is Indians under the age of 25.
We cater to them. We create a sense of change among the generation that will take this world forward. We give them a voice to be the change they desire. Upholding the banners of journalism, we create an all-pervasive environment at this forum.
Traditionally, reporters and correspondents were supposed to write/report events and the current happenings. But we tweaked this a little. Our correspondents, reporters and interns have complete power to not only report news, give views but also indulge in feature writing, thus voicing themselves even more.
The youth is changing and so is news. It’s time to create and influence public opinion.
We are ready for it. Are you? All we ask for is your participation.
Rest … is up to you.
