Your exams are over, all the assignments have been submitted and you really want a break from the city but your dad cannot take leave, your friends don’t have the time.
I’m sure every one of us has faced this situation more than once. What to do? Sit at home? No! Pack your bags and head out to explore the beautiful places that India has to offer. If foreign tourists are more than willing to explore then why are we so lazy?
There are places near the National Capital Region (NCR) that can be your fun weekend getaways. All these places can be enjoyed over the weekend without much hassle. I’m suggesting the five must visit destinations:
- If you are a wildlife enthusiast then Ranthambore and Jim Corbett are just perfect for you. You get accommodations in the sanctuary and you can book yourself the tiger safari. For these places you need to book in advance.
- Agra takes four hours by road to reach. There is no need to tell what to see in Agra. But to make your trip more memorable watch the sunrise at Taj Mahal, it’s a magnificent view to watch.
- Jaipur needs no introduction. The forts, palaces and the handicrafts are every travelers delight. A visit to Chokhi Dhani is a must. You get authentic rajasthani food.
- Rishikesh is heaven for the extreme sport junkies. You get to do water rafting, trekking and rock climbing all under expert guidance. The scenic beauty is a delight to any nature loving person.
- Nainital is a hill station that every one of us has visited at least once in our childhood (if not then rush!). Going back there on your own is a different experience all together. It’s a great place to shop if you know how to bargain!
I personally prefer to travel by road or rail. They are easy on your pockets and you get to enjoy the beautiful locals free of cost. Air travel within India can be expensive and extremely boring, avoid it where ever possible.
Here are some useful trips that will make your trip safe and enjoyable.
- Do a little research about the place. Search about the must — watch places, weather and local markets. This way when you arrive you are not a lost bird but an informed tourist.
- Make an itinerary. Since you have only 2-3 days and many places to see, creating an itenary helps to utilize your time better. But avoid planning every hour of your trip, after all you are going on a fun trip and some spontaneity never harms anyone.
- Local connections. If you have a relative or a family friend staying there, they can help you in many ways. They can provide accommodation, transport and of course local expertise on the place. If you do not want to stay with them, it’s ok but do inform them about your plans. Write down all the important numbers in your diary.
- Do not keep your all money together. If your baggage gets lost or stolen you don’t want to be a sacred and penniless tourist stranded in a new place. Always divide your money in three halves, keep one in your purse, one in your backpack and the third one in a place least expected.
- Pack light. Remember you are going on a weekend get away not on a month long break. Excessive baggage creates problems for you. Take only the necessities, you can always buy new stuff if you want. Do not forget to take place appropriate clothes and the right footwear.
- Keep your entertainment recharged. Carry extra batteries for the camera; keep your phone and mp3s recharged at all times. If you love to read carry 2-3 light books with you. All these things keep you occupied during your journey.
