Chase Your Dream!

Supratim Chakraborty:

During our childhood days, most of us lead a carefree life without any apprehensions regarding our future. With time lot of things come into picture and at some point all of us undoubtedly think about what is going to happen tomorrow. And with this thought in our minds, we start our endless journey of dreams and aspirations. A Dream to become something, a dream to achieve something, a dream to make a difference in our lives. But how many of us actually transform these dreams into reality? Rather I should ask why are we unable to get what we want out of life.

There are many factors involved in this issue, which might not be as big as other socio-economic problems faced by our nation, but it is indeed a problem of great magnitude, which cannot be ignored as it concerns itself with the future of the youth. In a country like India, a child’s dream is very limited, within the boundaries of either medical or engineering. People, who include both children and parents, do not really want to see beyond these two fields. There is no one, as such, to blame. Children put all of their efforts for only these two fields as most of them are either not mature enough to realize what they want to do or they are scared to express their ambitions. Parents choose these two fields because they do not want to take any risk and want their children to take the easy simple path to earning a livelihood.

At the end, the children are the ones who suffer. A child who wants to be a doctor ends up sitting in a software firm coding for some XYZ or some child who wanted to be a singer, ends up fighting with the RNA, DNA and mitochondria in a biology lab. Life sometimes becomes unfair. May be there are not enough opportunities outside to cater to everybody’s interests. One of my friends who is an electrical engineer and technically brilliant used to make robots during his olden golden college days and today two years after the completion of his engineering , he has joined a bank as a probationary officer. Ten years from now when he becomes a general manager in a reputed bank, he would not think about what his dreams were. Sometimes life does behave strangely, we always do not get what we want and what we get is not always, what we ever wanted.

In all these things, we often forget the basic requirement to live and that, according to me, is to enjoy what we do. It can be anything, but it has to be something which we give our heart to. Something, which we do because we want to, not because we have to, not because we do not have any other options. There is no point in doing things, which we do not like, in which there is no fun factor. A few people might put the blame on our education system and say that the way things have been designed in our schools and colleges do not allow us to realize what we want to become. That might be true. But at the same time it’s we who must make the decisions about our life. It is very easy to dream about things in life. However, dreaming is not enough to get what we want. We somewhere should have the determination to make our dreams come true. We should believe in our dreams to be able to see them change into a reality. After all, there is nothing in the world that we cannot achieve, if we are confident enough.
