Move over those Yamahas, Suzukis and other bikes, the dream vroom machine has finally arrived. Yes, you got it right, Harley Davidson (HD) is in India and now all those people who once dreamed of owning this exotic machine can actually experience it. It has entered India with its five motorcycle families – the Sportster, the Dyna, the VRSC, the Softail and the top-of-the-range Touring series. 12 new models of Harley Davidson have been launched in India, which were showcased by Anoop Prakash, the Managing Director of Harley Davidson India, at the recent Auto-Expo 2010. The 5 dealers from across India who would be selling the HD are – Delhi, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Bookings are already on but the machine would be sold only in the month of July.
For those looking for a little thrill and excitement on the roads, the Harley promises them a ride of their lifetime.
Founded in 1903 by William .S. Harley and Arthur and Walter Davidson, the company sells heavy weight (over 750cc) motorcycles designed to cruise the highway. The chopper styles are sportier. The company produces traditional cruiser motorcycles with V-Twin engines.
Manufactured in America, Harley-Davidson is the only bike to have survived the Great Depression. Even when the world saw a tremendous makeover in fashion, the Harley maintained its dignity and remained popular among people.
Earlier plans to bring the Harley to India did not materialize due to high tariffs and emission regulations. But now finally, they are in India and ready to change the face of the biking world.
The success of the machine’s demand in India was unmistakable in Pallavi Singh’s, voice of Harley Davidson Delhi as she spoke about its campaign. “The response was tremendous and the love for this bike is evident from the number of bookings we have had,” she said. The motorcycle will be sold at a starting price of Rs.6.95 Lac to as much as Rs.34.95 Lac.
DLF Promenade will also see a Harley Davidson showroom shortly opening there in July which would be selling its motorcycles, parts, accessories and apparels.
