Kaun Banega Crorepati is Back

By Tarun Kothari:

Popular reality quiz T.V Show Kaun Banega Crorepati is back and this time Amitabh Bachchan will host the show.  Actor Amitabh Bachchan will be again seen on small screen, repeating his same well known dialogue “Lock kiya jaye”, “sure, Confident”, and “computerji” instead “freeze kar dun”. The fourth season will go on air by the end of 2010. No other T.V show has created that much a sensation as KBC-1 Did. It was so popular that dinner timings  at most homes was altered to either before or after KBC. Even the cinema halls reported a slump in night show bookings because everybody was busy watching Kaun Banega Crorepati in their homes.

This would be the first time that Sony Instead of Star plus would be broadcasting the Show. The producer of the quiz game show, Kaun Banega Crorepati, Siddarth Basu said, “Star relinquished the KBC license some time back. And yes, the show is with Sony now”.

According to some media reports, Sony first asked Aamir khan to host the show, but he rejected the offer as he is busy with his schedule. Despite repeated denial by Sony, the truth remains that Aamir Khan was their first choice to host the show. Bachchan couldn’t escape being asked whether he was comfortable agreeing to host a show, which was earlier offered to Aamir Khan.

“I have no idea who was before me. All I know is that Sony came to me and I said ‘yes’ to them”, chided Bachchan.

The show reached new heights in Indian television cinema history when Amitabh Bachchan hosted KBC-1 and KBC-2. But Shah Rukh Khan failed to bring to the small screen a similar magic. There was a vast difference in the TRPs between the two seasons hosted by Bachchan and the third season hosted by Shah Rukh. When asked why KBC 3 failed, Bachchan said, “I don’t agree with you. KBC 3 didn’t fail. Shah Rukh did a wonderful job. TRPs are something which I don’t understand”.
