The tagline for the new Nokia N8 seems rather intriguing.
Due to past history and I have not really been a big time Nokia fan in the race for smartphones ( Made very obvious in an earlier article). In fact, I have often despised their touch, not liked the camera so much and found their Operating System far too slow. Well, it seems times have changed.
The Nokia N8 basically “kills it”.
To start with, it is powered by the Nokia Symbian 3 Operating System which is clearly distinct from its predecessors. It includes Pinch Zoom so you can easily zoom into pictures without having to use the volume key, Flick Scrolling so one flick of your thumb and the menu items just seem to flow and a feather-like multi touch. The Nokia N8 also offers multiple, home screens which can be personalized and loaded with applications and widgets. It is fast, sleek and more touch sensitive and just feels better in your hands. There’s also improved 2D and 3D graphics for a faster and more responsive UI, greater memory management and a visual task manager.
It is also the first Nokia Phone to have a 12 MP Camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and a large sensor that rivals those found in compact digital cameras. Another superlatively brilliant thing you can do with your Nokia N8 is record videos at 720p HD, use the HDMI cable and play it directly on your HDMI supported TV. The same can be done with your Images and music. So now you can enjoy High Definition videos, images and music on your TV directly through your phone. The phone also boasts of a Dolby Digital Plus surround sound which is compatible with most Home Theatres, so the experience will be nothing short of breathtaking.
It also comes with free Global Ovi Maps and walk and drive navigation ensuring that you do not get lost even if you are busy reading this article on the go.
Coming to Social networking, you can update your Twitter and Facebook status, share location, publish snaps and get live feeds all from a single application which you can of course access from the Home Screen. For all the music lovers, N8 promises a 50 hours straight music listening experience. This means you can listen to your favorite songs for a bit longer.
The list just gets longer with on-demand Web TV. So now when the metro ride seems monotonous or the college lecture just does not seem to excite you, you can simply access your favourite TV channels like Star World and National Geographic and watch Man vs. Wild while your teacher talks about the date of your next assignment. Morally speaking though, this is strictly not recommended. You can also visit the Ovi Store to find even more Web TV channels. My research has shown that you can in fact watch Al Jazeera live by downloading an application from the Ovi store. So the next time Bin Laden releases a video, you could actually see it before everyone else. Now how cool is that? Well, not so much actually, but it’s all about the hype isn’t it?
It is also Nokia’s first phone integrated with Qt. What’s that? Well, say you have got an idea to develop an application, Qt enables you to develop the app without really needing much knowledge, and more so, you can share it across Symbian and other software platforms.
So the dream of having a thousand people downloading an application made by you and really liking it is really not so far. I can already imagine that victorious smile of accomplishment on your face right now.
