Back when I was in school I had a classmate and a dear friend who I had known since a long time. Extremely good in academics as well as in extracurricular activities, she truly was a bag full of versatility. A star of every teacher’s eye she truly was loved by all. But fate played its same old game and due to her immaturity and lack of sincerity she flunked in 12th. The star slowly turned into the dark eclipse that everybody looked down to. All her talents and capabilities were overshadowed by just one word ‘fail’. All praises turned into curses. But it is rightly said–“Make buildings by the stones of criticism thrown at you”. She blindly followed this one statement and today is back on the success ladder with same fervor (and those praising crowd as well).
We all term ourselves to be socially and ethically compatible. But the shrewd fact is that each one of us is a hypocrite. We salute the rising sun as the setting sun provides us with no benefit. We are always ready to eulogize a person for our own upliftment but can only sympathize or rather criticize the one falling. If you have the power you rule. Even famous people like Walt Disney, Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, and Oprah Winfrey had to face criticism before they became famous in the field of their interests. But today the same crowd who had once kicked them off salutes them. Why does that tag of success or failure affect the perception of people towards an individual?
We all love to take the pride when a famous writer scientist or astronaut is of our country or region, but it is us again who try to pull the leg of those who try to rise. When time demands us we are the last one’s to provide them with resources. Citing the example of Kalpana Chawla and Dr.Venkatesh Ramakrishnan would be extremely apt at this moment. When Kalpana Chawla became the first woman of Indian origin to tour in space, every house in India took the pride of calling her an Indian. But it was our India which did not provide her with enough resources to bloom in her own land and serve her country rather than serving U.S.A under NASA. Dr.Venky is a prominent name as he won the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2009. It was U.S.A again where he carried out all his researches and got fame. The learned people from his field in India always considered him a non-significant scientist till the glorious moment. There was nobody to applaud when he was not a popular figure but still we say AH!!! There’s an Indian grabbing that prize.
I agree that every one of us wants to just escalate and so we grab the veil that is tall, and none of us is ready to give out hands to someone tumbling out there. But if we just start doing it gradually, earth would be a better place to live on. At times serving without selfish motive may actually push us a step towards success.
