It All Ends Here

“No story lives unless someone wants to listen”– J.K Rowling

It’s been a long journey for these ten years. And with the last movie of the Harry Potter series release, the pottermania plainly refuses to fade. The last chapter has finally arrived and the loyal fans around the world wait with bated breath for the premier of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2”.

Harry potter is not just a book, it’s a phenomena. And for a lot of devoted fans like me, it is a symbol of our childhood. I first started reading it in the 5th grade. Our English teacher had told us to write a book review on one of the Harry Potter books, and thanks to her I was hooked on to the series forever. Before Harry Potter I was into Enid Blyton, Ruskin bond and other children’s authors, but once I experienced J.K Rowling, I was transported to an all new world. I read the books like I had never read any book before. I hid them behind my text books at home and in the classroom; I was hooked on to the fan sites and to the movies. I daydreamed of attending the Hogwarts School that Harry and his friends attended. By the time the 5th book was out, I was obsessed with the series. Till the time the 6th and 7th book came out, J.K.Rowling had created an ardent fan out of me.

I had with me a whole band of Potter fans (even the teacher who had told me to write the review) and we used to hold quizzes and challenges with a Harry Potter theme. And no, it is not just us but there are a huge number of Potter enthusiasts all over the world. There are fan sites, which will provide with every kind of information that is related to Harry Potter. There is fanfiction which is extensions of the story written by the fans and is much sought-after. There are rock bands formed with a Potter theme, there are fan books and merchandise and a flourishing theme park in the U.S.

With a whole world getting mad for the books and the movies, there are those few who are not part of the ‘Pottermania’. But most of them are those who haven’t read or seen the series, and they just don’t find the idea of the existence of a parallel wizarding world very amusing. But Potter has more than enough fans already.

And with the last movie finally here, the fans world over cried and laughed with the stars of the final movie as they bid farewell to the massive reign of ten years. But with new website launched by Rowling named ‘Pottermore’, there is still a strand on which the Potter fans can hold on to. Yes, the last crumb is here. But as Rowling said, its not the end of Harry Potter, the phenomenon will always stay alive in the hearts of the passionate fans.
