11 Dead, 76 Injured In Blasts At Delhi High Court: Are We Safe?

At least 10 people died and over 56 injured in a bomb blast outside Delhi High Court today. Internal security secretary said it was a medium to high intensity blast. All the metros have been put on high alert. The explosive device was suspected to kept in a briefcase outside the High Court compound between Gate No. 4 and 5 and went off at around 10.17 AM when 100 to 200 litigants were waiting to get passes to enter the premises. Some lawyers were also present at that time.

Internal security secretary said that the investigations are on.

Condemning the “terrorst attack”, Home Minister P Chidambaram said in Parliament that nine people were dead and 47 injured, some seriously.

Chidambaram announced that the probe into the second bomb blast outside Delhi High Court in four months has been handed over to the National Investigative Agency(NIA). (source)

The blasts have been claimed by HuJI (Harkat-ul-Jihad Islami) militant group, with bases in Bangladesh and Pakistan. 4 months ago, a similar blast occurred outside the Delhi High Court. This blast comes as another shock at a time when the world is struggling to fight terrorism.

India has had a dark history of terror, and has faced few of the most dangerous terror attacks in the history of the world, including the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.

All this leaves us with a pertinent question: Even after being a democracy and economy that forges ahead, are we safe? Is life of any value?
