DEPARTMENT OF MASS MEDIA AND MASS COMMUNICATION

PARAMPARA 2012

(1st — 3rd March 2012)

Indraprastha College for Women, a pioneer in women’s education in India, was the first college to introduce the Mass Media and Mass Communication course at the Bachelors level in Delhi University in 1999. The course offers a comprehensive understanding of various fields of media studies such as broadcast journalism, television production, advertising, radio and film-making. Most of our alumnae are well placed in various channels like NDTV, CNN IBN, Times Now, Sony. The course boasts of a state-of-the-art Audio Visual Production Centre that provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience on high-end equipment.

Every year, the department organizes an International Students’ Film Festival, Mise-en-Scene and an Annual National Media Seminar, Meet the Media. Mise-en-scene aims to provide students with a platform to showcase their skills in film-making through creative and thought-provoking films. Its Indie fest segment is a great opportunity for the students to interact with independent filmmakers and observe their work. The festival also includes ‘Frame Politik’, a photography competition and a non-competitive photography exhibition that are meant to exhibit students’ still photographic masterpieces. Meet the Media is a national seminar where eminent media personalities debate, discuss and deliberate upon contemporary issues relevant to media.

Continuing the tradition, this year we are coming up with ‘Parampara 2012‘ from 1st to 3rd March 2012. The festival will commence with a panel discussion cum seminar, Meet the Media on the theme ‘Corporate-Media Nexus: Symbiotic or Parasitic?’ which would be chaired by N.P Singh, Corporate Director and Marketing Director at The Indian Express. The panelists include well known media personalities like Mr. Chandan Mitra, Editor and Managing Director of The Pioneer, Mr. Rajiv Prakash Saxena, Deputy Director General, National Informatics Centre, Mr. Pradyuman Maheshwari Editor-in-Chief and CEO, MxMIndia Private Limited and Anant and Saurabh, RJs at Radio Mirchi, 98.3 FM.

The festival will also feature Mise-en-scene, an International Students’ Film Festival on the 1st and 2nd of March. Renowned filmmakers like Mr. Yirmiyen Arthur, Mr. Raj Baruah and Ms. Sabina Gadihoke shall screen their films during the film fest. Ms. Sabina Gadihoke will be the Guest of Honour for the same.
