Sand Castle at High Street Phoenix: Creativity for a Cause

By P. V. Swati:

A UK based Sand Wizard – Simon Smith, World Masters People’s Champion builds a 10X10 sand castle in the courtyard at High Street Phoenix for “World Cancer Day”. Simon Smith, a Cancer survivor himself has taken this initiative in association with Sand Cult— Sand Sculpting Company and Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) to show the importance of this Crucial Cause. His extraordinary masterpiece was completed on February 4, 2012— The World Cancer Day and was exhibited on February 12, 2012.

The sand castle was put on display to raise charity for cancer patients, and support this art form and the artists. Not only was this sand castle the first of its kind in Mumbai, but also is an epitome of humanity towards Cancer patients. He is also a well-travelled person, and has built sand castles all over the world, so he’s seen a lot, and has quite a few stories.

Mr. Simon Smith has been involved with similar work to find cancer since past 17 years. In fact, not just cancer, but Smith has worked also for many other pressing causes. A part of the funds and donations would go to Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) and the rest would support the art and the artists. Those interested can go on to CPAA website (http://www.cpaaindia.org/contribute/index.htm) and make a donation for the noble cause.

When asked how individuals can contribute in our own ways to help fight this epidemic, Mr. Smith stated “Cancer has been there since a beginning of time. We can only help the people who are suffering by supporting them in any way we can and this is one of the ways that people can support.”

Undoubtedly, it is a great effort to spread awareness and support to the cancer patients all over the world. You can follow their initiatives on:
