iPad 3: Coming Soon

By Prerna Tyagi:

With just 4 days to go, the much awaited iPad 3 is ready to be unveiled on the 7th of March. The iLovers are looking forward to the launch with much anticipation; this also provides them an occasion to pay homage to the Apple King, Steve Jobs.

The gizmo has been in the news ever since the upgraded version of iPad 2 was introduced in the market late last year, when at the same time around Apple started hinting at the launch of their next product in the iPad series.

On 7th March, the Yerba Buena Centre for Arts in San Francisco would see thousands of tech-lovers lining up to witness the launch of the famous Apple tablet after a successful stint with its predecessors. The invitation sent out by Apple is already a big hit on the internet; it features a sassy tagline: ‘We have something, you really want to see. And touch’, well, the mystery would finally unfold soon. Along with iPad 3, the fruit-logoed company is also expected to introduce an upgraded Apple TV set top box, and may be a few enhancements to support the ‘much advertised’ feature of iPad 3- its retina display.

The retina display, defined by Apple as one with the ‘fixed density is so high that your eye is unable to distinguish between individual pixels’. This upgrade in the iPad series includes it now in the league of its cousins, the iPhone and the iPod Touch, which already have retina display.

Along with that terrific feature, iPad 3 also boasts of a A5X chip. The A4 chip of the original iPad was called SSL8930X, while A5 chip of iPad 2 was called SSL8940X and now there is A5X, named as SSL8945X. If we compare the labeling between A4 and A5, the jump was of 10, while it is only 5 between A5 and A5X. This would mean a halfway upgrade, meaning a chip with improved graphics but the same dual core processor as was in iPad 2. But the rumor has it that it might have quad-core processor.

Looking into the designing aspect, iPad 3 is intended to be 0.55 mm thicker compared to its earlier version but will still be a slender body with tapered edges. The tablet would be available in both white and black, keeping in mind the gender preferences.

A lot has been debated about the presence or absence of the ‘home button’. According to the pictures of iPad 3 revealed by the company, some tech-magazines are claiming that the home button is nowhere to be seen, which somewhat explains the mention of ‘And touch’ in the invitation. However, the iPad fans are quite confident that the ‘home button’ would continue to exist as was in the previous versions.

The other striking features include the presence of 4G LTE networking with cellular data, an 8 megapixel camera on the back, a 9.7 inch display, larger battery and high resolution display. It is also rumored to have Bluetooth 4 support.

The product will be available to all and sundry on 9th March 2012 so, all of you techies out there- be prepared to loosen your purse strings as iPad 3 is going to be the hot property this season and something not to be missed. Let’s go iShopping!
