5 Movies That Could Blaze The Screens Again

By Neelima Ravindran:

Old is gold is an old adage, and old victories of the silver screen recycled is the new rage spicing up and flavouring the minds of cine-lovers. Whether it’s Mughal-e-azam in all colour or Titanic in 3D, viewers are thronging to get a glimpse of their past favourites in new avatars. Here is the list of films that I would like to see on the big screen once more.

1. ET : Before the evil alien attacks and the alien wars now engaging the minds of children and youth, there was the friendly alien. Steven Spielberg’s ET was re-released on its 20th anniversary in an altered version that the director himself regretted later and which cheated the fans of their memories of the earlier film. We would love to see the original adaptation yet again, this time with no tweaks to the story.

2. The Godfather : The cult classic, the iconic; the one and only. Stories about gangsters have come and gone, but this sublime creation by Francis Coppola remains the finest ever and one of the most influential pictures of the times. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino scorching the screen with their dynamic performances – who wouldn’t want to watch that again on the big screen?

3. Sholay: The immortal imprint on celluloid, this one doesn’t require any explanations. Gabbar Singh towering over the screen in 3D asking ‘kitne aadmi the”, what a treat that would be for the senses. Though with the Sippys embroiled in a family tussle, it might be a long way before this dream becomes a reality.

4. Nayakan : A personal favourite. Two stalwarts of Indian cinema, Mani Ratnam and Kamal Hassan, uniting for 3 hours of sheer distinction and finesse in film making. It depicts the zenith of commercial cinema, hailed and lauded due to the compelling and realistic narrative of the Mumbai underworld.

5. Andaaz Apna Apna : This one bombed at the box office, only to be resurrected later as one of the cult comedies of Hindi cinema. It was wacky and defied logic but what sets it apart from the other comedies of its genre was that this one was truly hilarious. Wouldn’t mind a hearty laugh once again, would we?
