28 Days: Do Everything You Want

By Nivedya S:

I think the first thought that comes to your mind when you read the header is the month of February or maybe if you are a Hollywood fan, the Sandra Bullock movie. If it’s the second, then you’re close to the point I’m going to make here.

In school book definition- 28 days is the least number of days to establish and bring a flow to everything that happens to us. Confused? Let me explain with a synopsis of the movie-28 days.

Sandra Bullock is an alcoholic. She had to choose between prison or rehab after crashing her sister’s wedding and stealing a limo. First she hated it; all she wanted to do was get out for a swig again and tries to escape. Later she met people in a worse state than her. She realized that those people became addicts due to reasons like desperation or to escape a painful circumstance while she does it only for pure fun. She slowly understood that she was much better off than many of them there. She started to take her sessions seriously. Soon enough, she was up and at ’em and ready for a new life without addiction.

Did you lose someone really close to you? Do you skip your meals without reason? Do you always find it hard to spend at least an hour fruitfully? Do you really want to do something but just can’t seem to be regular with it?

The answer to all these questions is 28 days. 28 days is all you need. Do all you can to keep your mind off the matter for that period and you’re good to go. Do anything everyday for 28 days and before you know it, it’s already a habit you end up doing by default. Get somebody to monitor you just for 4 weeks and then it’s like training wheels off your bicycle.

I used to hate reading the newspaper, I just couldn’t get myself to sit down and read matters that don’t concern me. I found it boring and monotonous. At the beginning of my 3rd year at college, I met new people who unfailingly updated themselves with news from the paper everyday and if it failed to show up, they turned to the internet for their daily dose of current affairs.

Earlier I used to read the paper for finding new words. Later, seeing them, made me flip through the pages to read the headlines at the least. Before I knew it, 28 days had passed. I’m sure of that now because today I just can’t sleep without knowing what the world has been up to.

Try it, and then share it!
