Lost Beat: They Tell You How To Live Your Musical Dream

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.” ~ Albert Einstein

Would you have been a musician if you weren’t doing what you are doing right now? If your heart sings a ‘yes’ to this, you found angels in the form of three guys with crazy love for music, when those three guys found the musical powers of the internet.  The internet has never gone beyond the virtual, and promoted our inner feats in the way Abhay Pruthi, Akshay Pruthi and Ashish Goel see it.

Lost beat is an online portal which lets you share music, stay connected to your friends, and promote your talent at the same time. It was conceptualized by the trio in 2011 as an attempt to stay in touch with and to contribute to music, which they say is their true passion. As the name suggests, Lost Beat is a community of all those people who call themselves ‘music-lovers’ and find their talent unrecognized.

The TRIO, the Idea and their Story

The inspiration for the undertaking came from the fact that talented people, especially budding artistes often go unnoticed due to various reasons, be it their personal or professional commitments, or plain lack of resources and motivation. The initiators of this project themselves faced the same.

20-year-old Abhay, who is currently an aspiring engineer from Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Delhi, was a singer in his school days. He was a part of the reality show Indian Idol 2008, but had to quit after clearing 3 rounds. ‘I always wanted to sing, but I couldn’t find a proper stage to do that. I went to college and found a similar situation. That is when I thought there needs to occur a change, and this is exactly why we started Lost Beat.’ Abhay currently handles idea development and module formation in Lost Beat.

Ashish, who was a drummer all through his school and college days, is currently a successful businessman and handles Lost Beat’s branding and marketing. “There have been attempts such as Lost Beat in the past, but statistics prove that only 2% of the Asian population uses them. Lost beat is different, we aim at promoting raw talent, not commercial talent. Our aim is to provide a platform strong enough for people to gather from all walks of life under a single canopy, and connect in a musical network.

Akshay also studies technology at Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, Delhi. He developed an interest in event managing after he entered college, and will take charge of Lost Beat’s next phase, the offline module. “The concept of Lost Beat started taking shape last September, but we launched our Facebook page only in January this year. All these months, we did all the brain work. We have focused on the designing and site interface the most. We have given importance to minute details and have tried to make our website as user-friendly as possible. If you look at our site, you will find it to be a mix and match of Youtube, Facebook and SoundCloud. It is all of that, and more.”

The Website:

Lost Beat offers many interesting features like ‘My Beat Box’, the basic storage space offered to the users, houses all their music, photos and applications. The ‘MoodCloud’, another cool feature, gives you the option of listening to songs according to your mood. You can choose what your mood on a particular day is, and it gives you a list of songs accordingly.

The project has gained rapid maturity since its inception. Their Facebook page got more than 3000 hits within a month. The website takes up the uber-ambitious challenge to stand as the first musical networking site in the world and is expected to launch very soon.

We do not just look into the interests of musicians, but also consider non-musicians as an integral part of Lost Beat. There are various features like photo sharing and networking, and also applications which can be used by everyone. We do not operate on a single minded music-oriented approach. Our theme is music but we have something for everyone, since the platform we aim to provide is based on connectivity. ” says Akshay.

Regardless of their range, these projects were internationally successful, but does it bother the three co-directors of the company? ‘No, we do not see these sites as our competitors. We are trying to build a concept, we do not wish to compete with anyone. Our aim is to build a product, it is not about money-making. Rather, we are using other sites like Facebook for promotion. Every project has its own vision, and we respect theirs.’
