For Aaron Swartz: Because Ideas Don’t Succumb, They Don’t Commit Suicide

By Sadho:

Till he was alive, he was what he was – an advocate of free speech and a man against whom the US Govt went with everything it had. Today, an indomitable might, in the shape of flesh and bone may have succumbed to circumstances (he faced 35 years in prison and a $1 million fine if convicted. He was released on bond. His trial was to start later this year). But he no longer is just what he was. He’s an idea now. And ideas, as we all know, cannot be killed.

So don’t feel sad or cry for Aaron Swartz. For if you want to then rejoice instead. Because the idea that he fought for is more alive and breathing today thanks to the very idea that Aaron is now!

Because ideas don’t succumb, they don’t commit suicide!
