Even the men have had enough; after all it’s their mothers, sisters, wives, and daughters who are being targeted by fellow men. Now, it’s not just women, but men too are pledging for the safety of each and every woman in their lives.
Three important cities in the world will simultaneously hold the meet on 8th March.
New Delhi: 5 PM — 9 PM, British Council Library Grounds, KG Marg
Bangalore: 6 PM — 9PM, Cafe Coffee Day, Emporium Davanum, MG Road
New York: 1 PM — 2:30 PM, One UN New York — Diplomat Ballroom One UN Plaza, NYC
Breakthrough will be launching the campaign in New Delhi with a social media storm in partnership with Indiblogger.
Students, bloggers, professionals, leaders and luminaries will tweet, talk, text and blog issues around violence against women. The event will be inaugurated by British High Commissioner Sir James Bevan KCMG, Indira Jaising (Executive Director, Lawyer’s Collective), and Rajan Anandan (MD Google India). It will be marked by promises from Priya Paul, Advaita Kala and Rahul Bose. In addition, Amitabh Bachchan will join the event through Twitter, sharing on how he plans to #ringthebell on violence.
This year March 8 marks the 57th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, focussing specifically on issues related to violence against women.
So, this Women’s Day, give every woman in your life a special gift by promising to keep her safe.
