If Our “Holy” Waters Look Like This, What Would Be The State Of Not-So-Holy Ones #PhotoNama

By Priyanka Chakraborty:

Location: Princep Ghat, Kolkata, West Bengal.

The Ganges with the Howrah Bridge on one side and Vidyasagar Setu, towering over it on another, was a breathtaking sight. But one could not possibly ignore the filth which surrounded the “holy” water. In spite of such unhealthy conditions, people continue to dump and discard the remains of funeral ceremonies here. The Ghat is swarming with kids who practically live in this water. They only wait for the high tide, for it is then that people collect the “pure” water with their assistance and pay them a meagre sum of five or ten rupees.
