This Diwali, Make Sure You Skip This One Thing And Celebrate It Right! A Very Happy Diwali

By Ojaswini Srivastava:

So, Diwali is here and you must have loaded your house with boxes full of sweets, new clothes, lovely decoratives and of course packets full of crackers. But will just all this make your Diwali happy? Really? Happiness for us has become such a narrow perspective, that all it takes is to grab a fistful of dry fruits, mouthful of sweets, wear new clothes and decorate our house with loads of flowers and diyas?

I am not going to give you a lengthy motivational speech on what you must do and what you should not do on Diwali, it is your festival, your life and you must enjoy it your way. All I intend to do is remind you quickly, crackers are literary burning money. You invest thousands of rupees just to burn it up and that too with unpleasantly high noises and extreme air pollution, also contributing to the illegal practice of child labour.

Prosperity is symbolized by the idols of Maa Lakshmi that we all worship on Diwali. My idea is just to make it more meaningful. Buy new clothes, eat loads of sweets, and decorate your house like a castle, but please don’t burn crackers. Instead, make prosperity, donate that money to a poor, needy fellow human. You don’t have to go far looking for them. Just look down your balcony, you will find a beggar, or a driver, a rickshaw puller or labour not far away.

The money you put into burning, can surely be put to brining prosperity (the true essence of Diwali) in someone’s dark life. Isn’t it?

Wishing everyone a very happy and safe Diwali.
