The Government Is In A Hurry To Play With Your Safety; Here’s How You Can Stop It

By Ruhie Kumar:

A huge mistake. That’s what the government is going to commit.

What happens before elections is as important as what happens during and after! The Indian government is in a hurry to endanger your food supply and risk your safety. The government is in a great hurry to approve GM (genetically modified) field trials. It is also pushing to get approval for the Kudankulam phase 3 and 4 nuclear reactors. The Chief Election Commissioner, V. S Sampat, can defer these projects until the elections are over. Ask him to put them on hold.

Why the hurry?
Getting these projects approved days before the 2014 General Election is a blatant violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The GEAC (Genetic Engineering Approval Committee) approved under open air, field trials of 10 GM crops, including crops like rice, wheat and maize under the direction of Minister of Environment and Forests, Veerappa Moily recently.

The contract approval for Kudankulam nuclear reactor units 3 and 4 should also follow a due process; the matter still remains in the Supreme Court, so why the hurry?

You have helped us before in ensuring that the supplier is held liable in case of a nuclear accident and kept the fight for safe food going by stalling the BRAI bill.

Tell the Chief Election Commissioner, V.S. Sampat, to uphold the Model Code of Conduct before the elections, and to keep our food and energy supply safe and clean! The government should not meddle with the democratic processes, not before the elections in 2014!
