‘Simple is the new smart.’
With simultaneous events held across New York, London and San Francisco, LG has brought yet another beauty to the flagship phones arena which is already heated up with HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Nexus 5 from Google. Here is what the phone has to offer:
1. Unmatched Display
With practically no scope left for an Android manufacturer to differentiate on the basics, LG chose to go and dazzle with the display that puts others to shame. The display is 5.5 inch AH-IPS LCD QHD (1440×2560 pixel) display. The pixel density is a stupefying 538 pixels per inch. To put this in perspective, consider the measly 326ppi of iPhone 5S which costs Rs. 46,500 in India. LG has said the display redefines what is ‘real’.
2. Latest Android
No surprises here. The Android version is the Android Kitkat 4.4.2 and LG’s collaboration with Google on the Nexus range increases hopes of getting timely updates as and when they are released. Disappointment will strike you if you are a lover of dual SIM phones as this one is a single SIM configuration. On the other hand, Moto E which is available for Rs.6,999 has dual SIM card capabilities.
3. Smart User Interface
The UI is completely revamped and made ‘smart’ by LG’s own configurations. There is adaptive optimization to help you save battery by tweaking settings. The UI stands out on its minimalistic design, light typesetting that raises the ‘beauty’ quotient of the phone and app grouping capabilities that allow you to sort apps.
4. Speed and Processing
The processor on this one is the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.46GHz which is expected to deliver a great performance with the tweaked UI and lightweight Kitkat version of Android. LG has managed to stun audiences by adding value on the 32 GB variant of the phone by adding another gigabyte of RAM. 16 GB variant has 2 GB of RAM while 32 GB comes with 3 GB of RAM available.
5. Camera Quality
The camera on LG G3 is everything that we have seen so far on previous phones but it is not to belittle its potential. The camera is a 13 megapixel shooter with dual LED Flash but the differentiator here is the autofocus engine which focuses in 0.267seconds. Front camera is a meagre 2.1 megapixel.
6. 4G Connectivity
The connectivity in LG G3 is right up to date with the current trends. Loaded with 4G support and Bluetooth 4.0, the phone will deliver high speeds of data transfer. Accompanying these are NFC, GPS and Glonass apart from the usual 3G support.
7. Battery and Charging
The battery is a good 3000 mAh and can be expected to deliver a day’s worth of performance over Wi-Fi and 3G both. The battery is removable which sets it apart from other flagship phones with sealed battery packs on the back. You will find wireless charging available on G3 too.
8. G Watch’s Companion
The launch of G3 is still underway with events in Seoul, Istanbul and Singapore to follow. It is expected to start rolling out to South Korea from 28th May and then in phases to other regions. However, the pricing is not yet revealed for this one. LG might have to price it better this time and not create another great phone that nobody buys like it did with G2. Nexus 5 and Moto X selling for low prices will make their task further difficult.
9. Exclusives
LG has filled the rest of the phone with exclusives that we wouldn’t have imagined in a flagship launched in quick succession of the G2. There is a 1 watt speaker with a Boost Amp which is expected to deliver great sound. The phone scores with its new keyboard that is said to be better than the existing ones and smaller. QuickCircle is another innovation of LG which places call log, dialer, music player, messages, clock and shortcuts to settings right on the top of the phone and it is accessible through the flip cover as well. A little gimmicky, but might prove to be useful.
10. Pricing and Launch
