Do You Think Hindi Is Our National Language? This Video Will Reveal The Truth

Is Hindi really our national language? After the recent push given to bureaucrats by PM Narendra Modi, to use Hindi as their primary official language, many people have raised this question. While you might think that Hindi is India’s ‘National Language’, the reality is that the Indian constitution does not talk about any language being a ‘national language’. After India’s independence, around 40% of Indians were Hindi-speaking citizens and hence, Hindi came forth as a common, binding language in a country with over 1600 different speaking languages. After much controversy, Hindi and English became the official languages used by the cabinet till 1965, only to be amended to include 22 other languages as official languages in the cabinet. As on date, only 26% of Indian citizens use Hindi as their mother tongue.

But it is not as simple as it sounds. The video below by Anil Kumar of MyPromoVideos spells out the reality for you.
