It has been 25 years since Tiananmen Square protests happened in China. There are a lot of misconceptions as well as dark memories associated with the protests where government action led to thousands of civilian deaths.

A twitter user, Patrick Chovanec who is a Managing Director at an asset management company and an adjunct professor at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs tweeted the account of the day as it happened. He spent months in researching about the hushed event and finally revealed it all on the 25th anniversary of the protests. Here’s a slideshow that sums up all that transpired exactly 25 years back on 4th June, 1989 in Beijing.
