Bobby Jasoos Deserves A Watch, Especially For Vidya Balan’s Performance #MovieReview

By Shivangi Adani:

Bilquis Ahmed aka Bobby ( Vidya Balan ) is a 30-year-old Hyderabadi who can either make you fall in love with her or hate her because of her extremely zestful attitude. Bobby, a girl with high aspirations, a risk-taker, fierce, the go-getter, and the believer wants to be her father’s pride. She wants to be the best detective in her town in Hyderabad. However, she has a number of obstacles on her way to becoming a successful detective. Her father, who follows the old school thought, doesn’t want her to be a detective, her aunt wants her to get married and she is constantly denied a job by a local detective agency. However, her mother is very supportive of her. Supriya Pathak plays the role of Bobby’s mother wonderfully.

Bobby gets small petty cases such as keeping an eye on her friend for her mother, helping Tasawur (Ali Fazal) get rid of marriage proposals. Her career of a detective changes when a mysterious man called Anees Khan gives her a case to find a woman with a birthmark on the hand. He offers her a high price for the same. After the completion of this case, he asks her to search for a man named Ali without a toe. She becomes suspicious and starts looking into Anees Khan’s background. After a turn of dangerous events and some suspense, she finds out the truth. Amidst all this, a romance develops between her and Tasawur.

Bobby Jasoos is worth a watch, especially for Vidya Balan. She has done justice to her role. Her liveliness, attitude, smile, acting and ability to keep you glued to the screen will make you love her. However, after Kahaani, the audience had high expectation from Vidya Balan. She has lived up to them with her role per se. But the movie could have been better. There are a few shortcomings in the story; especially the part where she disguises herself into different characters drags a bit too much.

The silent relation between Bobby and her father, where in the end they finally break the wall standing between each other, portrays a strong meaning of a father’s responsibilities for his daughter and a daughter’s dream to be her father’s pride. The constant force pushing Bilquis to believe in her dream and follow it in spite of the society, her family and other obstacles brings a lot of positivity. It encourages us, especially women, to follow their passion, no matter what.

What makes the audience like the movie is the emotions, the strength and the message it sends. Overall, Bobby Jasoos is a good watch only if you go for it without high expectations.
