In 4 Mins, This Amazing Song Smashes The “Madrasi” Stereotype About South India

By Veda Nadendla:

“We are south of India,
This is not a single state; we are here to clear the state.
We are south of India
There is no Madrasi, we are all Padosee.”

All south Indians are not Madrasis, and we now have a melody to hum sense into all of us. Fed up with the south Indian stereotyping, a group of people from Chennai who call themselves ‘Enna Da Rascalas’, have brought to you ‘We Are South of India’.

With customised lyrics to the Billy Joel’s chartbuster “We Didn’t Start The Fire”, these four people are saying no more to South Indian stereotyping. They are opening eyes and minds in a very robust and fantastic way with all the quirks and specialities of the south Indian states. If you haven’t already seen this, you’re in for some serious eye opening. No Madrasis here, only padosees (neighbours).
