Almost a year ago, two young filmmakers – Khushboo Ranka and Vinay Shukla – announced their project Proposition for a Revolution, a documentary on the then still forming anti corruption party, that we know today as the Aam Aadmi Party.
The political discourse in India was undergoing a change; it was being called a promulgation of the peoples’ revolt, “but all that we saw and heard was a clutter of second hand media opinions. We felt the urge to see for ourselves what was going on”, explained the makers.
Following AAP through their achievements and failures, Proposition for a Revolution aims to chronicle the journey of the party from its formation in December 2012 to their eventual rise to power at the Delhi state elections in December 2013.
Ask them if the film is pro AAP or anti AAP? “Neither”, they answer – “The film doesn’t seek to provide definitive answers. It attempts instead to engage in a dialogue”. The film brings to fore the most fundamental questions about the gradual shift in our political discourse today.
The film is now at the post-production stage and the makers have released an excerpt from it which shows Arvind Kejriwal tackling an issue at the grass-root level. It also includes an update for the audience on how the film is progressing.
