An amendment proposed by the NDA government seeks to allow children under the age of 14 to work in “family enterprises”, stoking fears that this law will be abused by several industries that will exploit children. Furthermore, it contradicts the Right To Education act that guarantees all children in this age bracket free and compulsory education. The future could see more and more children being pulled out of school to work in exploitative labour, that too under the protection of the law.
