More than 125 million girls and women in the world alive today have faced genital mutilation. A heinous practice, prevalent predominantly in Africa and Middle Eastern countries, it involves cutting a part or the entire external genitalia of a woman for non-medical reasons. Seen as a violation of human rights, it can cause several problems like abnormal bleeding, as well as cysts and infertility.
