A.K. Padmanabhan, President, Center of Indian Trade Unions says, “In India this is not the first time that all central trade unions are coming together.” Recalling the first national strike of November 1991, against the neo-liberal policies of the Narsimha Rao government, he mentions that the strike on 2nd September is the 16th one.
The 11 central [envoke_twitter_link]trade unions, with their 10 point charter, are fighting for workers[/envoke_twitter_link] not just in the organised sector but also the unorganised sector. The strike has garnered support from the informal sector as well, bringing various outfits of professionals together.
The one day strike, comprising 15 crore workers in public and private sector, is set to affect services like transport, banking and supply of power, gas and oil.
