“Phir se Nitishey” (Nitish, Once again!)
This clarion call, made popular in the run-up to the Bihar elections has now come to a successful conclusion with Nitish Kumar once again becoming the Chief Minister of Bihar. For the fifth time around, no less.
And with that also comes to an end Youth Ki Awaaz’s #BiharKiBaat series with this final episode.
We embarked upon creating this series because of two reasons. One, to bring out the stories that lay trapped under the mainstream cacophony of political squabble between the BJP and the Grand Alliance; and two, to give the power of reporting in the hands of the people who could do real justice to it – the youth of Bihar.
We travelled to Araria district, counted amongst the most backward districts of the country and also the political hotbed of the 2015 Bihar elections, and trained a group of 10 enthusiastic and eager-to-learn youngsters (all in the age group of 16-20) to use a camera and take interviews to help bring out the stories that matter.
What came out as a result of this experiment were powerful videos highlighting the glaring gaps in some of the most basic services for the welfare of people – an old age pension scheme that’s woefully inadequate, Integrated Child Development Services that barely qualify standards and a rural education system that’s more conspicuous by its absence.
With this last episode, we bring you [envoke_twitter_link]a picture of Bihar which needs urgent attention[/envoke_twitter_link]… which needs development more than ever. Now that the kissa kursi ka is over, will the government get down to action, is what remains to be seen.
