Watch Anushka Sharma Expose The Double Standards Of Bollywood In This Powerful Interview

By Ankita Mukhopadhyay:

Let’s face it. How many women are treated at par in an industry as big as Bollywood? If there are two hotel rooms, one which is better, whom will it be given to, the male actor or the female actor?

Anushka Sharma, in this hard-hitting interview with Anupama Chopra, talks about wage disparity, age disparity and more issues that put male actors at a higher pedestal than their female counterparts. She points out that disparity in the film industry is ‘ingrained’, its not something that can be changed in the blink of an eye. Whether its the age of the female actor, where she is less ‘desirable’ after a particular age, or it is her ‘attitude’, female actors are expected to behave in a certain way, something Sharma believes is a deeply embedded patriarchal mindset that just refuses to be changed.

She also mentions an instance when she mentioned to someone that she wants to be an actor like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, to which the person reacted, ‘but, he is a man!’. She points out a major element in the film industry – the fact that [envoke_twitter_link]women are not expected to be certain kinds of actors, not expected to do certain roles[/envoke_twitter_link], because of which their creativity gets stifled. From lack of opportunities in films to lack of say in them, [envoke_twitter_link]Sharma hits out hard at the industry[/envoke_twitter_link], that has made many into stars, but with conditional clauses in it.
