“Chrrr tak, tak, taka daka tak, chree…”
That’s the sound that a printing machine makes. The printing machine that is responsible for your daily and monthly dose of newspapers and magazines. Black and white ink that tell us about rape, murder, brutality against minorities… every single day. All this as we sip on our morning coffee, flip through the newspapers, and flippantly turn the page. It’s the same story every day, isn’t it, and really, we can’t do much about it sitting in our homes.
But that’s where Kalki Koechlin’s video, The Printing Machine tears through our silence. It urges us to not bear it anymore. No, stop! Don’t fit into the boxes that society creates for you. Don’t keep mum in the face of raging sexual violence and brutality. If there was any time to raise our voice, it’s now. And Kalki doesn’t scream or shout even once, but this video will make you want to! It’s only 5 minutes long, but it will make you think and might even disturb you for many more minutes to come.
