On 23rd February, the Joint Action Committee for Social Justice, University of Hyderabad, organised the #JusticeForRohith Solidarity March in the heart of the capital. Many from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, itself embroiled in a conflict over ‘nationalism’, joined the march, bringing the calls for justice for Rohith and for Kanhaiya (and other JNU students slapped with sedition charges) together.
Rohith’s mother, Radhika Vemula, who has been braving the situation and the media after Rohith’s death was also present and gave a short speech wherein she spoke about the injustice faced by the Dalits and the students of the country. The speech was translated into Hindi for the crowd by Dontha Prashanth (Rohith’s friend and one of the five who were suspended by the University of Hyderabad).
