In a track that is starting to take the internet by storm, Punjabi singer Ginni Mahi has sung a song that pays tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, affectionately known as Baba Sahib. The song, ‘Fan Baba Sahib Di’, with lyrics by Pamma Bakhlapuriya is part of the album – ‘Gurpurab Hai Kanshi Wale Da’.

A rough translation of the lyrics reads as:

“I am a fan of Baba Sahib (Ambedkar), who wrote the Constitution,
He was a lion, whose pen had the might of the arrow,
He fought for our rights and truth and changed our fortunes,
He was the messiah of the backward classes and the whole world knows this.”

In recent times, while politics over who gets to appropriate Dr. Ambedkar as part of their politics has really caught up, this song with its upbeat sound and powerful lyrics has received appreciation from a large number of people with cries of ‘Jai Bhim’ flooding the song’s link on YouTube. Check out the song and tell us what you think.
