In A Moving Video, Survivors Of 1984 Riots Tell Us Of Their 30 Year Long Pain

By Rachit:

“There is no way to be heard in this country,” says Chaman Lal, who lost his son in an alleged fake encounter. ‘Victims Demand Justice in Punjab’ is a campaign produced by New Media Advocacy Project and Ensaaf. These short videos focus on the older generation opening up about the alleged disappearances of their children and grandchildren during 1980s and 1990s. They talk about their long fight with the government to achieve justice for their children, and how the court proceedings continue to impact their lives.

‘Ensaaf’ is a nonprofit organization that has been documenting abuses, litigating human rights cases and organizing survivors to end impunity, with a focus on Punjab. They have been actively documenting cases of alleged disappearances of 25,000 Sikhs during, before and after the Sikh riots.
