[Y]ral: This Remake Of A Spice Girls Song Is Really Really Hitting The Right Notes

By YKA Staff:

Most ‘90s kids will remember singing along (rather loudly) to the Spice Girls’ hit “Wannabe” – the anthem of girl power and choosing friendship over romantic love, that released in 1996. Now, 20 years later, a United Nations’ initiative has remade the song. Only this time, it’s more than just a groovy song.

A part of Project Everyone under The Global Goals, the video brings together women from all over the world who tell you what they “really, really want”. They want to end child marriage and violence against women. They want equal pay for equal work, they want education.

With a diverse representation of women from India (you’ll spot Jacqueline Fernandez in the first frame), Nigeria, South Africa, UK, USA and Canada, in classic ‘90s clothing, the song is all about girl power and empowerment and urges others to share the change they want to see for women in the world.

The response to this video has been phenomenal, with #WhatIReallyReallyWant trending globally on Twitter on July 5.

Victoria Beckham, a member of Spice Girls also expressed how much she loved the new avatar of the song, along with what she really wants:

And here’s a quick look at what women across the world shared:
