In 3 Minutes, This Fun Video Shows How Cricket Came To India And Became A Religion

By YKA Staff

April 2, 2011 is a particularly special day in the history of India.

Remember that second ball of the 48th over that was hit for a six over long on, at the Wankhede Stadium? Remember the conviction that emanated from Dhoni’s eyes when he swung his bat to Nuwan Kulasekara’s, under the length ball?

That was it. India won the ICC Cricket World Cup after 28 years.

A country of more than a billion erupted with joy. The celebration lasted for months. Most us can recall how it felt, like it was yesterday.

That day told us yet again how cricket is not just another sport in India but a religion. A religion we devote so much of our time and energy to. Whether it be from the gully cricket we start with or when we climb that difficult ladder of throwing expert comments at the television screen with a parent around.

But how much do we actually know about this religion we love?

This video shall take you back to when it all began. A super quick ride through the history of the sport in India, an almost Lagaan-ish flashback, our entry into international cricket and fast forward to when Kapil Dev and team made us proud and put us on the map!

It has been one long and amazing journey, hasn’t it?
