“He Was Reportedly Left To Die Because The College Didn’t Have Funds To Call An Ambulance”

By Ashutosh Kamal:

Editor’s note: Harshit Srivastava, a B. Tech student was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the campus of Academy of Business and Engineering Sciences (Also known as ABES), Ghaziabad on July 27. Harshit’s family members claim that he was electrocuted by a light pole of the college cricket field and negligence by the college management led to his death. Later, an FIR was lodged against the college under 304 A of IPC (causing death by negligence) at the Vijay Nagar police station. Ashutosh Kamal, Harshit’s cousin brother has shared an account of the incident, and the events that followed:

Harshit Srivastava who was studying in a reputed college of Ghaziabad named ABES was electrocuted after coming in contact with a light pole. When students found Harshit at 6:00 AM in the morning stuck to an electric pole – he was alive then. The students urged the college authorities to provide immediate medical aid but he was reportedly left to die because they didn’t have funds to call an ambulance.

Harshit was a scholar and a resident of Allahabad who went to fulfil his parents’ dream to pursue higher education and eventually establish himself as a successful human being. He had been a sports captain who had represented UP in state level basketball championships.

Vijay Kumar Srivastava, Harshit’s father, was informed about this tragic incident by his brother-in-law, Ashwini Kumar, his local guardian.

[envoke_twitter_link]My brother died because of the carelessness of the management.[/envoke_twitter_link] It is my heartfelt request to each and every one of you – whether you knew Harshit or not – please lend your support against the management of ABES so that we could send the culprits behind bars.

Family members and well-wishers of Harshit want a thorough investigation of the whole case and want the CBI to be involved.

An FIR has been lodged against college management under section 304 A of IPC (causing death by negligence) at Vijaynagar Police Station. We want suspension of and legal action against the warden and entire management. We would also want the management to work towards a better medical unit and arrangement of proper campus pharmacy.

And we would also like to request the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the HRD Ministry to review the incident and ensure that they do not happen again.

We don’t know how to express our feelings, emotions and anger. Harshit, the pain is unbearable and not seeing your smiling face makes us restless.
