The Murder Of A Young Man In Bilaspur That Got Solved, But Didn’t Get Justice

This is about the Gaurang Bobde murder case in Bilaspur. He was partying with some friends in a bar till late at night. They left the bar as seen in the limited footage available.

The world woke to news of Gaurang’s death early in the morning on July 22, 2016. The last photos of Gaurang show that he was possibly beaten to death. His hands were fractured and he had blue eyes which generally results from being punched. His Liver was ruptured and internal bleeding was reported. And there are a lot of unanswered questions. But it is believed that the suspects, those with whom he was partying, belong to very influential families of Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh and hence, the police and local media tried to cover up the issue as soon as possible.

Allegedly, the police have been trying to cover up and weaken the case from the very beginning. But due to public protests and candle marches, they took action by arresting the four suspects and presented them before the magistrate and sent them to judicial custody without interrogating or investigating the case deeply in spite of the high-profile nature of the case. The charges put on the suspects are Section 304, 201 and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) as said SP in the press conference.

A lot of people are tweeting and trying to raise their voice via non-political media. Police have filed it as a case of accidental death because the results of initial investigations suggested that he fell from the stairs. Local politicians are trying to cash in on the issue as well. But no one is trying to book or interrogate the owner of the bar which was open illegally, till late in the night. The police have claimed to have solved the case with a 42-second video in which they are seen exiting through the stairs. There were other cameras installed there. But no one seems to be asking about the rest of the footages.

His sister Vedanti S. Bobde , a 20-year-old who is studying B.tech in final year in Nagpur, came out strongly and raised her voice via social media, something that has greatly empowered the youth today. And as Gaurang was very popular, people took up the issue on social media like Facebook and Twitter with hashtags like #justiceforgaurang and #justiceforgerry. They have managed to find many supporters for a fair trial, not affected by influence and money.

Till now they have raised their voice on many popular social media platforms. Let’s hope their voice doesn’t weaken and this case isn’t also lost in the jungle of procedures of the legal system of India. Please, let’s not leave our country at the mercy of politicians and media.
