It’s very sad that corruption in India is everywhere. You have to expect it everywhere.
As you may know, the Indian tennis team will be playing against the mighty Spanish team in the Davis cup in Delhi. I have been to numerous tennis matches in Delhi, including Davis Cup. But this time, the Spanish team includes the likes of the Rafa Nadal and David Ferrer. That means Rafa will be playing in India! That’s a dream come true for a tennis fan like me!
On top of it the all, India tennis Association announced that the tickets for this tournament will be free. My joy knew no bonds! I thought I was going to see my favourite tennis players play live, right in front of me! For once I believed that dream to come true. But life isn’t so easy and uncomplicated in a country like India. I called at the KR Khanna tennis stadium on Thursday asking, when I should come over to take the passes. The receptionist told me to come on Monday, she said they will distribute the passes from 11 AM till 5 PM. I told my dad a million times not to forget the date and the time. We even had a fight because he thought I was being so obsessive and annoying about it.
Finally on Monday he promised me that he’ll go to the stadium and collect the passes for us and he did go there, right on time. But the people at the stadium said they were out of passes, if he really want to watch the match they could give him the tickets for ₹5000 each. My dad said no, not because of the money, but because of the values. My dad would never buy anything in black for me.
Now imagine, there are over 5000 seats at the stadium and I don’t think they even distributed all the free passes. Most of the passes must have most likely gone to the families and relatives of the workers there. The rest is up for sale at ₹5000 each. The whole idea of distributing free passes thus went down the drain. I’m beyond upset with this news. I really didn’t expect this to take place in the field of sports, specially when our Indian team needs all our possible support to play against the mighty Spanish team. Sorry team India, for not being there for you… I really wanted to be there and scream my lungs out in your support but unfortunately it was not meant to be.
