Disturbed By Just How Much Food We Waste, This Entrepreneur Decided To Start The Change

Text by Writu Bose:

India will take 315 Olympic size swimming pools to fill up the amount of food grains the country has lost since 1997′

However unbelievable this may sound, it is true. And it is one of the primary reasons that prompted Anurag, founder of Save Indian Grain, to come forward and acknowledge the issue in order to determine what triggers the post-harvest food loss.

This was long required because, in a country like ours, where 15.2% of the population is malnourished, we really cannot afford 40% of our fresh fruits and vegetables (worth an annual $8.3bn or so) going to waste every year before reaching the consumers. Also, this amount is exactly the volume that is consumed by the people in the United Kingdom in one year.

Shocking, isn’t it?

In this video, Anurag who has most dedicatedly decided to resolve this issue shares the reasons of the post-harvest food losses and discusses the ways of reducing them.
