2nd December 2016: According to a PTI report, the Gujarat High Court granted bail to the four accused, including two policemen who were arrested for their alleged inaction in the Dalit flogging case in Una, Gir-Somnath district.

On July 11, seven Dalit youth were thrashed, allegedly by cow-vigilantes when they were skinning a dead cow. Later, four of them were taken to Una, tied up with a vehicle and thrashed by the same vigilantes for 4 to 5 hours. A video of the same went viral on social media, which is when the issue came to light.

Four policemen were arrested for alleged inaction and misuse of their position. The chargesheet also named Nitin Kothari for beating the youth and Shantibhai Monpara for inciting these cow-vigilantes.

The state government opposed the bail plea, also pleading that the accused may threaten the victims if they’re granted bail.
