Where Just One Man Came To Help A Squirrel Bleeding To Death

My usual day starts with getting up early in the morning, taking a bath, getting ready, putting on my earphones and going to college. Yet, this day wasn’t a usual day. Sometime after stepping out of my house to board a DTC bus, an incident happened. An incident that made me hate mankind and love it at the same time.

It was eight in the morning. I was on my way to the bus stand. With earphones plugged in, I was enjoying my favourite music. Suddenly, a man on his bike rushed by my side. Giving him an intense look, I just let him go. He was in such a hurry that he couldn’t even notice that a baby squirrel was trying to cross the road and just rode his bike over it.

There was a complete change in the scenario. I ran up to the squirrel. It was lying on the road in a pool of blood. I tried to stop that man by running behind him, shouting for help, but failed in my attempts. Meanwhile, that little baby gained some strength and tried to get up. She was in a lot of pain and agony. But it somehow started to crawl and tried get on the side of the road. I wanted to help her but I couldn’t find the means to do it. The pain was becoming unbearable for her. Yet, she still crawled to save her life. She did not give up. Though she was left all alone, she was ready to fight all alone.

The people who passed by were least affected by the injury of that little baby. They all are were rushing away unaffected by the fact that they might hurt her more. I somehow managed to make them realise that they should drive slow. I even asked some people for help but no one turned up. However, among all these people who lacked empathy, a man got affected by the incident. Despite getting late, he stopped his car and enquired about the whole incident. Deeply affected by the story, he got a towel from his car and with my help he put her on it.

Giving it in my hands, he asked me to sit in his car. We drove to a hospital nearby. We quickly went inside and asked the doctor to attend to her. After examining her, the doctors informed us that she was dead. Tears rolled down my cheeks and dropped on her wounds. I was still hoping that those tears might just work as medicines and heal all her wounds. However, nothing like that happened. That poor animal had just lost its life.

This was the first time I witnessed such a painful loss of life . The loss of that one life just left me with a question. Was it God who created us differently or was it our discretion that made some us so pure and some of so rude?
