DU Colleges Do Poorly, St. Stephen’s Below Hindu, LSR In Latest NAAC Ratings

More than 30 Delhi University colleges have received their National Accreditation And Assessment Council (NAAC) scores, and the results have thrown quite a few surprises. Not a single college has secured the Council’s highest ranking A++, and only 3 have secured the second best ranking A+.

What is more, St Stephen’s, ranked amongst the top colleges in the country, doesn’t even appear in the top 10 when it comes to NAAC scores, outperformed by institutions like Hindu, Gargi, Khalsa, Kirori Mal, Institute of Home Economics and Acharya Narendra Dev College.

Every year, lakhs of students line up for admission into the prestigious Delhi University. Yet, it seems when it come to quality assessments – there isn’t a single DU college that was able to score between 3.76 to 4, the score required to score an A++. Just 3 have secured an A+ – Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) and Hindu College with 3.65, 3.61 and 3.60 points, respectively.

The National Accreditation And Assessment Council (NAAC), an autonomous body under the University Grants Commission gives out a quality test score based on various parameters like curriculum, evaluation, facilities, infrastructure etc. The highest grade that the body gives is an A++, something none of the DU colleges graded by the organisation has received.

In 2012, University Grants Commission (UGC) started the process of making NAAC accreditation mandatory for colleges. Delhi University accepted the process in 2014 and since then, it is the first time the colleges have been accredited.
