RBI To Roll Out New ₹100 Notes Too, But No Need To Panic

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said on December 6 that it will shortly issue new ₹100 denomination banknotes. The new notes will bear the signature of the new RBI Governor Urijit R. Patel instead of Raghuram Rajan and will have year ‘2016’ printed on its reverse.

The RBI has been making changes to the ₹100 banknote since June 2015 and introduced three new security features – ascending size of numerals in the number panels, angular bleed lines, and a larger triangular identification mark on the left side of the note. The changes were introduced in a phased manner by January 2016. In addition, in July 2016, new notes were issued that did not have any inset letter in the number panel. The notes that will be issued will have these features.

However, the RBI has said all notes of ₹100 issued by the bank in the past will also continue to be legal tender.

Added features in the new note.
