860 Miles, One Cyclist, A Ride Of Grit For A Worthy Cause

Michigan based Kavitha Kaniparthi is going to run 860 miles from California to Utah, for a cause that she supports. An engineer by profession, Kavitha is also an athlete and an entrepreneur. At present, she is the first woman race director in India.

This is her story.

A near fatal incident at the age of 15 left her in coma for three weeks. Once she recovered, at the slightest hint of anxiety, she would hit the trails. In 2009, she created Globeracers – a blog to keep track of her running record. The blog later turned into a race organizing website, however, the transition happened by chance. During a business trip to India, Kavitha met a runner at the service apartment she was staying at. They became friends over their common love for running and decided to travel to the mountains, for a run in Sandakphu.

The idea of organizing multi races came to her after this expedition. She extended her stay and spent time researching on the subject. The first Indian desert race took place in the Thar desert – a 210 kms five-stage race in the Thar Desert. Today, Globeracers hosts races in remote parts of India. Kavitha has raced in the Rann of Kutch, Mizoram, Himalayas and the Bhatti Mines in Delhi.

She is now undergoing training for her next ride, which will take place in June. A magnanimous effort to support her initiative – the #WOMENSTRONG Campaign – a community that aims to be a resource for every woman who needs support, a helping hand, finances, and training. She wants to motivate those who lack the strength and resources to believe in their dreams and turn them into reality.

Kavitha is using the BitGiving platform to create a campaign to raise funds to cover her training costs. Through this exercise, Kavitha and her team want to connect with communities across the country and raise awareness about the benefits of cycling. She hopes to be a source of inspiration for women around the world to achieve their true potential.
