The Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti, the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, demonstrated a massive protest demanding concrete steps for women’s safety across the state. Hundreds of students from different colleges chanted ‘Azaadi’ to be able to want to walk free on the roads without being harassed.

Nethravathi, Co-Covener, CYSS Karnataka said, “₹2400 crore is lying unutilised under the Nirbhaya Scheme. We want the government to use it to install CCTVs, street lights, one-stop crisis centres and other initiatives.” The CYSS also alleged that the women helpline number 1091 does not work 24×7 and is mostly out of service.

Following Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s ideology, the CYSS believes that the youth should participate in policy making to ensure efficient governance. They will be taking the campaign #BreakTheSilence across Karnataka to raise the issue of youth empowerment with the students.
