Editor’s Note: Students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, along with the JNU Teachers Association, held a strike on January 17, 2017, in the University to protest against the administration for deciding to implement the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations, 2016. Two days after the strike, the Registrar of the University, Dr Pramod Kumar, released a notice stating that these faculty members will not be getting the pay and allowances for the day of the strike and that “It is proposed to take action against the faculty members who participated.” JNU Teachers association has retaliated to the notice with the following:
