You Can Do Anything In Life, As Long As It’s What We Want

How many times have we heard the sentence,”You can do anything you want in life”?

Countless times, right? Be it in real life scenarios, reading it in books, watching it in movies or maybe even while our teachers motivated us. But, when have any of us truly thought about or merely considered the possibility of living a life like that?

You should take a moment and ponder that.

As we grow up, we start to realize that the world is a tough place to survive in and in order to make it through the cut throat competition, we have to be the ‘BEST’.

What is ‘Best’?

Best is anyone who scored higher marks than you in class. Best is anyone who was always in the teachers’ good books. Best is anyone who could manipulate people into doing what he or she wanted. Best is the person who could talk about anything in front of the whole class. The list goes on and on…

But why do people forget about the immense talent hidden in those who are unfortunately unable to express themselves easily? What about the Thinkers, the Writers, the innumerable geniuses who do not fit into one category?

We forget that in a world that is so advanced in so many ways, our outlook, on the variety of people residing in it, is still primitive. We consider the person who can talk incessantly more intelligent than the one who talks only when absolutely necessary. Socially-confident ones are simply better than socially-awkward ones.

This misconception about what’s ‘Best’ or ‘Perfect’ is so deeply hardwired in our brains that we use it every day without even realizing it. We are the ones who made boxes and categories for every kind of person that there is and it may have worked for a while, but it surely doesn’t anymore.

Now because of these misconceptions, countless people suffer every day trying to change and conform to our twisted idea of the ‘Perfect Human Being’.

We are brought up to think that doctors, lawyers and engineers are the only ones who can be successful and artists, comedians, struggling actors etc, are the ones who have lost their way. The very same people take back their words when those people they shamed become successful and/or famous.

What society doesn’t realize is that what may earn us money and respect may not give us the happiness we have always craved. Happiness should never be compromised on our way to success.

We study so that we could have a career, we choose a career to make enough money to achieve our goals and dreams. We set goals and have certain dreams because we believe that’s what is going to give us true happiness. All these roads meet at a single destination and that destination is your happiness.

Don’t you sacrifice your happiness for anything in life because, had it not been for happiness, our life would be for nothing.

So, the next time you are tempted to do something out of the box, take that freakin’ box and throw it right out of the window.

The next time someone tells you that you are not perfect, ask them the real meaning of that word and who really gave it that meaning.

And, the next time someone tells you that you can do anything in life, prove them right.
