On Sunday, January 22, we organised ‘Dangal With Someone Special’, a movie screening and lunch for kids from lesser privileged backgrounds. We believe in the necessity of education for all to ensure a brighter future for the country, and especially focus on the education of the girl child.
For the event, 80 girls from the NGO Kilkari joined us. We gathered at the Dominos in Connaught Place for brunch. After a lively tour of the Dominos kitchen, a brunch filled laughter and photo sessions, the girls proceeded to PVR (in Connaught Place) for an afternoon screening of Dangal.
The girls left the theatre imagining that they could someday become their own versions of ‘Geeta and Babita’. “Geeta ke paas Babita thi. Mere paas toh itni saari behne hain. Main kuch bada zaroor karungi” (Geeta had Babita, while I have so many sisters for support. I’ll definitely do something big). The day was an enriching experience for all.
We were happy to have organised the event without any glitches. A teacher with Kilkari appreciated our efforts and also said that the kids had a good time.
This was the second time we had organised such an event, and we plan to organise many more to raise awareness about pertinent issues in the society.
